Soccer: England and Germany to clash at Wembley

Historic rivals England and Germany will meet in a friendly soccer international at rebuilt Wembley in August, the Football Association said on its website today.

Germany were the last senior international team to play at the old Wembley when they beat England 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in October 2000.

Four years earlier they beat England on penalties in the semifinals of Euro 96 at the same stadium.

Wembley also hosted the 1966 World Cup final when England triumphed 4-2 over West Germany in extra time.

England play the first senior international at the new Wembley when they host former world champions Brazil on Friday.
