Tiger Woods: First $100 Million Man in Sports History
Sports Illustrated is out with its annual Fortunate 50 list of the highest-earning athletes in the world, and it's no surprise that Tiger Woods is No. 1. But the dollar figure is staggering: His ridiculous endorsement earnings makes him "sports' first $100 million man" even without his relatively puny $12 million in winnings.
Another surprise: Phil Mickelson is third, with $47 million in endorsements in addition to $4.3 million in winnings. (Oscar De La Hoya is second with $53 million in winnings and $2 million in endorsements.)
Michelle Wie is the only female on the list, with less than $1 million in winnings but nearly $20 million in endorsements. With today's endorsement contracts, it's a very good time to be a world-famous golfer.
