Beckham to make a guest appearance in "WW I soccer truce" movie

Washington, Mar 14 : England soccer star David Beckham will make a guest appearance as a soldier in a movie "Truce", based on the World War.

Dressed as a soldier, Becks would feature in a football game between the English and German armies.

The new movie is being directed by Vadim Perelman, of the "House Of Sand + Fog" fame.

Perelman is revisiting a famous Christmas Day ceasefire that resulted in a battlefield soccer game between the enemies for his new film project "Truce".

Beckham is expected to kickstart his acting career properly once he arrives in Los Angeles this summer (07), where he will play for Major League Soccer team the LA Galaxy.

On Tuesday, he was given a belated grand farewell by his old club Manchester United.

In the unique and historic truce, firing stopped along the entire 500 miles of the Western front as British and German soldiers exchanged pleasantries and celebrated Christmas together.

The Germans sang "Stille nacht, heilige nach" (Silent night, holy night), while the British responded with renditions of 'O Come all ye Faithful'.

In one sector German and British soldiers engaged in the historic friendly soccer match.

The match played in the in the icy mud of No Man's Land in France became famous as the world's only friendly football match between enemy soldiers during war.

In some areas, the truce lasted only one day, but in most of the sectors the truce was observed for several days afterwards, with soldiers on both sides showing reluctance to open fire on the men whom they had met face to face only a few days back.

In several sectors the truce continued until close to the New Year.
