Rwanda/Nigeria: CAF Bans Soccer Club for 3 Years

The Disciplinary Board of the African Football Confederation (CAF) has suspended Rwanda's APR FC for three years from participating in CAF inter-clubs competitions for fraud during its CAF Champions League first leg tie with Maranatha de Fiokhpo of Togo in Kigali on March 3 this year.

In addition, the Rwandan side was fined 10,000 dollars for abandoning the second leg match before the end of the March 18 game in Lome.
The board, headed by South Africa's Raymond Hack also suspended APR's Sadou Boubakary for one year for assaulting the referee while his team mates, Gasebuka Alua and Mafisango Tabuete were suspended for six months each for using abusive language against the referee.
The punishments would be communicated to the world soccer governing body, FIFA.

Another APR player Ben Mandela was suspended for two games for refusing to return to the field of play while the club was fined 5,000 dollars for improper conduct.

Other disciplinary measures taken by the board are the suspensions of Omar Dawood, Ahmed Osman and Osama Ben Salah of Libya's El Ahly. The three were axed for one year for their violent and aggressive conduct against the referees in the CAF Champions League tie against AS Coton of Chad played on Feb. 11, 2007.
