Stevie G was 'too shy' for date

SOCCER hero Steven Gerrard’s fiancée Alex Curran originally refused to date him — because he was too scared to ask her out himself.

The England and Liverpool star, 26, fell for stunning blonde Alex, 25, at a party in 2002.

He asked a pal to act as matchmaker but Alex insisted he had to approach her himself. He eventually plucked up the courage and rang her.

Now the couple, who have two children, are set to wed next month.

A friend of the England vice-captain said “Stevie’s always been quite a shy lad.”
